Zizzo’s — Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Cheri at CoffeeYears ago, I would walk across the main street in Tracy several times a day to the coffee shop, Zizzo’s. It was my main form of exercise, a dose of caffeine, and a chance to get out of the chaotic newsroom. Inevitably, I’d run into someone I knew, and it always felt like home.

When the owners of Zizzo’s moved to Santa Cruz, they sold their business, and the new owners changed the name to Barista’s. I really missed the old Zizzo’s, but after I moved to Santa Cruz myself, I stumbled upon my old coffee shop in Capitola. All of a sudden, my new home felt like I’d come home, and I wanted to fill it with all of my friends, old and new.

I’ve traded coffee for green tea now and left the newsroom for good. I started my own company, and one of the things I do is Google photography. So when Zizzo’s rebranded and added a piano and wine bar, I knew it was time to do a virtual tour of my hangout.

So here it is, everybody, my own version of Cheers. Join me there for a glass of vino?

Become a Virtual Tourist

Ever go to a shop while you’re on vacation and want to buy everything in sight? That happened to me at the Craft Gallery in Capitola Village, and I wasn’t even on vacation. If you’re related to me, don’t look too close, or you’ll see some of the gifts I might give you the next time I see you!

Welcome to the Village!

Just because it’s January doesn’t mean you can’t go to the beach! Heck, it’s shorts-and-flip-flops-weather here in sunny Capitola Village.

Yep. High of 70 degrees today!

While you’re at it, here’s my 10-second commercial: Check out all the goodies at this shop — Capitola Reef — with the bright-blue paint on Capitola Avenue.

Find the antique shoe-shine chair at the back, where you can sit and be fitted for a toe ring. While you’re at it, pick out a necklace and a beach bag. You’ll need a hat, of course. Maybe a sweatshirt for later. Now get out there and enjoy the sunshine!
